The bathroom renovation of this duplex flat was an atypical challenge, both in terms of design and construction. The flat is located on the corner of a residential building. The bathroom is on the 4th floor under the roof, just under the corner that builds the roof hip. This hip defines a strong diagonal internally, which divides the ceiling into two inclined planes. In one of these planes there was already a roof window, bringing light and air into the room. However, the room looked narrow and compressed. In addition, the height of the ceiling did not allow a mirror to be placed above the basin. The main idea was to take the diagonal of the ceiling as a starting point, turning it into the axis of symmetry for the placement of a second roof window, providing more light and air, and enlarging the space. The window was mounted in such a way that a mirror could be placed underneath in between the vanity unit and the window. Other decisions that helped to decompress the space were the dismantling of the sanitary wall, the replacement of the bathtub with a floor-level shower and the material chosen for the walls and floor coverings. The latter forms a single surface (without gaps), helping to create an open and clear space.
